Surviving Hurricane Dorian

While at the New York Times R&D Lab, we explored how to photojournalists could generate 3d models of environments or objects using traditional photographs-- through a process known as photogrammetry-- to help provide more context to news stories.

The first story the R&D Lab contributed to was on Hurricane Dorian’s impact on a shantytown community in the Bahamas. The interactive article merged interviews, traditional photographs, aerial footage, and a ground-level, 3d model composed of drone images.

They Survived Hurricane Dorian. Their Community Will Not.
